Yet another mass murder in the USA (in 2015)

Wake up call already?

This morning reading my Twitter timeline I got a glimpse of the headline: Oregon Shooting at Umpqua College Kills 10.

According to the New York Times:

ROSEBURG, Ore. — A 26-year-old man opened fire on a community college campus here in a rampage that left 10 people dead and seven wounded and turned this rural stretch of southern Oregon into the latest American locale ravaged by a mass shooting.

My first thought was: again?

I’m not American nor I live in the USA, however I still feel for tragedies like this. I’ve travelled to the United States twice and I plan to travel again in the future, it’s a fascinating country.

So how can one of the most powerful, technology pusher country like this have so poor gun regulations?

Read/watch President’s Obama statement

We are the only advanced country in the world that sees these shootings every few months.

What’s wrong with you people?

I don’t share the liking but I can understand the hunting or even using guns for sports (shooting range). As long as it’s very regulated and isolated.

Here in Spain you can purchase a rifle or a shotgun for hunting too. My grandfather had one, and my uncle hunts as well. It’s fine, as long as you have proper permits, you pay the taxes and follow the law.

The problem is when permits are too easy to acquire, as if there were candy. I’m convinced that the people that are in favor of guns and against guns regulations haven’t had any family member killed.

A nice read about the gun lobby on CNN: Why we’re still debating guns in 2015

What can average Joe do about this? How do we push changes forward?
