Weeknote 42 (2023)

We’re riding a train across Spain today ๐Ÿš„ ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ

I’m leaving Barcelona for Ourense, we have a Haidong Gumdo seminar with my master in Galicia the north-west part of Spain. It’s going to be a good weekend ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿฅ‹

Since they introduced the high-speed train (I don’t dare call it a bullet train) we’ve chosen the train over the plane. Going by air means we land in a different city and we need to take a local train to my master’s city. Not ideal. When you do the math the time spent is almost the same time doing train or plane. Nonsense ๐Ÿ™„

The worst part yet is the pricing, because I’m always going on Fridays and returning on Sundays you pay a premium. You would think the train should be cheaperโ€ฆ but not. It infuriates me, but this is Spain for you ๐Ÿ˜ก

For some strange reason when riding from Barcelona, you have to stop at Madrid, which is not a shortcut but a detour if you intend to go to Galicia. Not only that but once you get to Madrid you need to get a local train to change to a different station. They say they’re working on improving thatโ€ฆ ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

That’s why Spain trains are just disappointing, sure I know there are worse countries out there but when I’ve recently come from Japan in April, or South Korea in all these recent yearsโ€ฆ I can assure you, if you ever visit those countries you’ll never look at trains the same way. I can’t wait to back to the land of the rising sun โ˜บ๏ธ ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต โ›ฉ๏ธ
